WiMLDS’s mission is to support and promote women practicing, studying or interested in the fields of machine learning and data science. They create opportunities for women to engage in technical and professional conversations in a positive, supportive environment by hosting talks by prominent data scientists, technical workshops, networking events and hackathons.

About the program

The application process closed on 21st March. I wrote everything I felt and tried to express my enthusiasm in the best possible way I could. Initially the mentors list were announced and it was then, when I started to keep tabs on my inbox waiting for selection mail. And, it was then a few days later, when I received a selection mail.

My joy knew no bounds. ✨✨

The very next day I received a mail, introducing my mentor and co-mentees. I was excited to find Swasti Shreya Mishra as my mentor. She is currently in her 4th year of a 5-year integrated MTech program in IIIT Bangalore. She is one of the 6 Adobe India Women in Tech Scholars selected in 2021 and has experienced various competitions like ACM-ICPC Regionals, Google Build for India Hackathon, Microsoft Codess, LinkedIn Wintathon.

The first week commenced with an introductory phone call. It majorly focused upon knowing each other and individual goals and expectations from this program.

She guided us to build projects and read research papers on them. As internship season is approaching, she insisted us to focus on Data structures and Algorithms and improve our problem-solving skills. She guided us about how to apply for research internships.

I’ve always believed “When women support each other, incredible things happen.” and this program’s concept of women empowering one another is proving it to be true.
